Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is considered one of the greatest artists of our time. With his Soup Cans and numerous other iconic depictions, such as of Marilyn Monroe and MAo, he created eternal motifs. In doing so, he set the course for Pop Art as we know it today.
James Francis Gill (*1934) is one of several important co-founders of American Pop Art. Today he is known for his depictions of Pop Art icons as part of his late work. Together with Andy Warhol, he was on of the first artists to create iconic works of Marilyn Monroe after her death as part of the Pop Art movement.
This book highlights the similarities and differences between Warhol and Gill in their artistic work and on a personal level. It also looks at some key companions without whom their success would never have been possible. World-renowned museums and institutions have contributed information and images to the book.
